Opening the Forum

This forum is started as a place for reflection on the Bible in all its various potential meanings. This is a team blog founded and hosted by Ken Schenck. While anyone can make comments in response to entries, the site belongs to a team of interested participants who can make main entries as well. The names of team members can be found in the links to the right. Most discussion will thus take place between participants in the main entries rather than in subsidiary comments.

Let me suggest five ways to categorize biblical dicussion:

1. discussions of the original meaning of individual books and texts
2. "canonical discussions," understood as meanings of the Bible as read by the church of the ages
3. denominational discussions, the biblical interpretations of various church groups
4. devotional discussions, meanings of personal and contemporary spiritual relevance, and
5. "reader response" discussions, contemporary appropriations of the Bible that are "extra ecclesia," but may be of interest in some other meaning context
